HB 1938: To facilitate the propaganda of rationalist ideas by means of an understanding between all those who think it necessary to free humanity from religious prejudices by the popularisation of practical science, and to defend liberty of conscience against any attempted philosophical domination or political or social oppression.

General facts

HB 1936: Le premier congrès a eu lieu à Amsterdam en 1859, Le premier congrès international s'est tenu à Bruxelles en 1880. Depuis cette date, dix-huit congrès se sont réunis dans différentes capitales. Le dix-neuvième a eu lieu à Paris en 1925, le vingtième à Anvers en 1927, le vingt et unième à Luxembourg en 1929. HB 1938: The First Congress was held at Amsterdam in 1859. The First International Congress was held at Brussels in 1880. Since that date, eighteen congresses have been held in various capitals. The nineteenth International Congress took place at Paris in 1925, the twentieth at Antwerp in 1927, the twenty-first at Luxemburg in 1929, the twenty-second at Prague in 1935. The 1938 Congress will be held in London.</
