Object

(1) To improve and standardise the organisation of the various member societies, with the special purpose of providing more effectual protection for the moral and material rights of authors and composers, etc. (2) To work in concert with the other associations interested to secure recognition for literary and artistic copyright in all countries in which it is not recognised nor protected, and to improve the various national laws and the international legislation regarding literary and artistic copyright, etc. (3) To establish a documentation, information and control centre, etc. (4) Generally speaking, to make a study of all problems affecting the drama and music. (HB 1936) To improve and as far as possible to standardise the organisation of the various member societies with the special purpose of ensuring more effectual protection for the moral and material rights of authors and composers, under the laws at present in force; to work, in concert with the other associations interested, to secure recognition for literary and artistic copyright in all countries in which it is not yet recognised or protected and to improve the various national laws and international legislation regarding literary and artistic copyright, the moral and material rights of authors and composers, and works of which the copyright has expired; to establish a documentation, information and control centre enabling the various member societies to provide their members with effective guarantees as regards the performance, execution, translation, circulation and adaptation of their works abroad; in general, to make a joint study of all problems affecting the drama, poetry and music in their different forms, and the collection and payment of royalties. General facts

In 1926, the French Society of Dramatic Authors and Composers took the initiative in summoning a congress of societies of dramatic authors and composers. At this congress a Federation limited to societies of dramatic authors and composers was founded. As, however, certain of the affiliated societies contained sections for the collection of fees in respect of non-dramatic rights, these societies called for the admission of all authors' and composers' societies without exception. Accordingly, the organisations whose object is to collect non-dramatic fees were also summoned to the 1927 Congress at Rome and the organisation is now divided (see above) into two separate and independent federations. (HB 1929) En 1926, la Société française des auteurs et compositeurs dramatiques prit l'initiative de réunir en congrès les différentes sociétés d'auteurs et compositeurs dramatiques. Ce congrès aboutit à la fondation d'une Confédération groupant exclusivement les Sociétés d'auteurs et compositeurs dramatiques. Certaines des Sociétés adhérentes comprenant également une section pour la perception des droits d'auteur sur les œuvres non théâtrales réclamèrent l'admission de toutes les Sociétés d'auteurs et compositeurs sans exception. L'admission de ces Sociétés fut décidée au Congrès de 1927. The Congress of 1927 decided on the admission of these societies. Since then a Federation of Societies for the Collection of Mechanical Rights has been founded (in 1932) and a Federation of Men of Letters (in 1935). International Congresses were held in Rome in 1927, Berlin in 1928, Madrid in 1929, Budapest in 1930, London in 1931, Vienna in 1932, Copenhagen in 1933, Warsaw in 1934, Seville in 1935 and Berlin in 1936. Activities

Annual congresses of the two constituent federations in the same town on the same date; these congresses hold at least one joint sitting as a congress of the Confederation. The last Congress was held at Madrid in April 1929. (HB 1929) Congrès annuel.
