Object

To co-ordinate internationally and reinforce efforts for the defence, development and improvement of social insurance, especially sickness insurance and invalidity-old age-life insurance, by means of (a) continuous action in favour of the principle of the autonomous administration of mutual benefit societies and insurance funds, (b) the organisation of periodical international meetings of representatives of mutual benefit societies and insurance funds, and (c) the exchange of information and the comparison of experience, particularly in regard to the practical operation of such societies and funds.

Annual budget covered by members' subscriptions (totalling in 1936 the sum of 9,000 Swiss francs).

General facts

The International Conference has held meetings as follows : Constitutive Meeting at Brussels, 1927, General Meetings at Vienna, 1928, Zurich 1929, Dresden 1930, Prague 1931, Paris 1933, and Prague 1936.

Publications

Reports (in six volumes) of the discussions and proceedings of the General Meetings.

Activities

At its various meetings, the Conference has had to deal, amongst other things, with big problems in connection with the practical organisation of social insurance, such as the independent management of sickness insurance funds, the control of the doctors* panels, participation in the campaign against social diseases, the position of panel doctors, the economic organisation of pharmaceutical supplies and the economic and social aspects of social insurance funds.
